Evangelist Temple Church had a very humble beginning. It was the idea of Supt. J.L. Snowton to start a church in the Paris Community. He was supported by his wife, Sis. Dorothy Snowton. When he started, he had only his wife and children as steady members. The church began at 585 West Provine in 1970. The facility was a dilapidated building with a very raggedy roof.

When it rained, we did not have enough containers to capture the rain as it poured inside the building. It was necessary to turn the seats over so the rain would not create puddles in the seats. This way the seats would be dry when we returned for the next service. From this very humble facility, we had a live weekly broadcast from KPLT radio every Sunday night.

God blessed us to build a facility for our worship services. It was located at 781 West Henderson, which is our present location. Bro. Gene Mason, one of the members, and his family were instrumental in overseeing the building of our worship facility. The Snowton family and a few faithful members contributed the funds, hard work, sweat and prayers for this project.

Some additional members who greatly impacted the work on the church were, Bro. and Sis. Sammie Frierson, Sis. Beatrice Scale and Sis. Dorothy Council. These individuals are no longer with us. We thank God for the precious memories of these members and their contribution to the church.

When building our church, it was necessary for everyone to participate, which included the youngest to the oldest person. Anyone who could carry a bag of nails, a hammer or glass of water, was included in the task.

Some of the group was assigned to hammer and some were to provide food for the workers. Some of us who tried to help with the building of the church had little to no building experience; however, we hit our thumbs and fingers, as much as we did the nails. Thank God for those with better skills.

The church has been remodeled at least twice since 1973. We are proud to have our lovely facility  that we are in today. God has truly been good to us.

During the years, the church has served as a meeting location for a variety of district meetings. It continues to flourish in the community as a spiritual home for those seeking to serve God.

The church is always open to people wanting to be willing workers for Christ. We continue to praise God for His many blessing.

OUR VISION

The vision of Evangelist Temple Church is to be a beacon of light to those who have lost their way.

This can be accomplished through giving a hand of friendship to those who are reluctant to reach out.
